Jean Tucker Smith, 89

Jean Tucker Smith, 89, of Moreland passed away Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at her home.
Jean was born May 18, 1921, to Henry Roscoe and Ruth Siddoway Tucker in Teton City.  She was reared in the Teton City area, attending area schools, and graduated from Madison High School. 
On April 8, 1942, Jean married John L. Smith in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they had eight children, John, Grant, Janice, Cora Jean, Mary Ann, Beth, Susan and Teresa.  After Jean and John were married they lived in Moody Creek, then in Roseworth for a short time, and returned to Moody Creek, before buying a farm west of Moreland in 1957.  They moved into the Moreland townsite in 1974 where they have resided since.
Jean was a devoted homemaker, wife and mother.  She enjoyed handwork, writing letters and cards, gardening and reading.
Jean was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in all areas of the church, including stake Relief Society president.  Jean was a member of the Syringa Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and “Let’s Talk About It” the Snake River Book Club.
Jean is survived by her husband, John Smith of Moreland; sons, John Lee Smith of Moreland and Grant T. Smith of Onalaska, Wisc.; daughters, Janice (Sam) Christiansen of St. Anthony; Cora Jean (Dennis) Taylor of Moreland; Mary Ann Smith of Groveland; Beth Smith of Moreland; Susan (John) Williams of Orland, Calif.; and Teresa Smith of Twin Falls; brothers, Keith W. Tucker of Teton City; Mark B. (Gay) Tucker of Teton City and Glenn (Janis) Tucker of Idaho Falls; sisters, Carolyn (Jim) Aslett of Tulelake, Calif.; and Charlotte (Blair) Parker of Parker; brother-in-law, Dave Bauer of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; sister-in law, Marva Lee Tucker of Teton; 20 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Julia; brothers, Reed C. and Ross N.; sister, Ann Bauer; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at the Moreland LDS Chapel.  Family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church.  Interment will follow at the Teton-Newdale Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.  Condolences may be sent to the family at
