Lady Panthers stay alive with 51-37 win over Bear Lake

POCATELLO - Jocelyn Harper banged home 18 points and snagged 9 rebounds as the Snake River Lady Panthers kept their season alive with a 51-37 victory over Bear Lake on Thursday evening at Highland High School.
"Jocelyn put us on her back, especially in the third quarter," Snake River head coach Rich Dunn said. "I just can't stress enough just how happy and proud of the effort and desire that my team showed tonight."
Coming off of the heart breaking one point loss in the district title game less than twenty four hours earlier the Lady Panthers came out with their trademark steely defensive effort as they shut down the Bears with just 11 first half points.
Despite that, Snake River led by just 7 at the break before Harper and company took the game over with a 19-4 third quarter that witnessed Harper convert a pair of three point plays on the low block for 12 points in the quarter.
"Both teams played last night and both teams were tired and that showed in the first half," Coach Dunn said. "Our kids decided that the pain of regret was far worse than the pain of being tired and they just came out and left it all on the floor."
The name of the game was defense as the Lady Panthers forced 18 turnovers and picked up 10 steals led by Shayla Christiansen with 4.
"We had better execution in the third quarter but the difference tonight was our heart on the defensive end," Coach Dunn said.
Snake River (13-4) will play on Saturday at 1:00 when they face off with Salmon at Century High School. The winner will punch their ticket to the state tournament the following weekend.
