Larry Bumgarner, 73

He was born July 7, 1938, at Shelley to Lawrence Howard Bumgarner and Annie Mae Beasley Bumgarner Olsen. He graduated from Shelley High School and LDS Seminary. He also took classes from LaSalle Extension University in accounting.
Larry joined the Idaho National Guard and served for eight years, leaving as staff sergeant. He also held positions of company supply sergeant and personnel sergeant.
He married Connie June Stoddard on Nov. 21, 1957, in Blackfoot. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on Nov. 22, 2005.
He was employed in his early years mowing neighborhood lawns and helping his grandparents raise a large garden. He worked with a local electrician, helping rewire the old Shelley Grade School, worked for the school district mowing lawns and repairing roofs, and worked at the local movie theater. He was employed by the R.T. French Company for 28 years and the Pillsbury Company for 10 years, retiring in 1995. He started working in the scale house weighing trucks and keeping track of potato storage amounts. Later he moved to front office and paid for potatoes and hauling. R. T. French decided to start a packaging operation, so they offered him the job of coordinating scheduling at Shelley. He later did the production planning, scheduling and ordering all supplies. The job increased in responsibilities to making weekly production and activity reports, handling the salvage department and holding department meetings.
Larry was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Mutual and Boy Scouts, took care of fast offering assignments and very eagerly attended most of the ward temple assignments. He served at the Family History Center in Idaho Falls for one year.
He was elected to the Shelley City Council and served for four years. He was a charter member of the Shelley JayCees and Shelley Lancer Car Club.
