Mary Leone Broadhead, 88

YAKIMA, Wash. — Mary Leone Broadhead, 88, formerly of Blackfoot, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2011, in Yakima, Wash.
She was born Mary Delaney, to John Vernon and Preal Losser Delaney, on April 28, 1922, in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she grew up and graduated from West High School at the age of 16.
Mary was working as a switchboard operator for Rocky Mountain Bell in 1941 when she met D. Lloyd Broadhead. The couple married on March 11, 1944, and moved to Lloyd’s family farm in Thomas where they raised four children—Mike, Steven, Clair, and Kay Lynn—and lived for over 50 years.
Mary was an active member of the community, volunteering at the church, working part time jobs while raising her family, and later serving as president of the Blackfoot Does. She worked for the Blackfoot School District from the late ’60s until the mid ’80s, when she and Lloyd began to split their time between the farm and their house in Yuma, Ariz. After Lloyd passed away in 1995, Mary moved to Blackfoot and continued to spend winters in Yuma.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Bud; her sister, Thelma; her husband, Lloyd; her son, Steven; and her grandson, Jeremy.
She is survived by her brother, Harold (Audrey); her children, D. Michael (Marvalene) Broadhead of Yakima, Wash.; Clair L. (Paula) Broadhead of Blackfoot and Kay Lynn Broadhead of Boise; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mary loved to dance, travel, golf, play cards, and spend time with friends. She will be remembered dearly for her cheerful spirit and the constant love and care she’s given her family over the years.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 11, 2011. at 11 a.m. at the Thomas Ward Church. The viewing will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2011. from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, and the family will meet for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the Broadhead Family Scholarship Fund.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.  Condolences may be sent to
