Panther grapplers sweep Vikings/Savages

Moreland – The three way match up between Snake River, Challis and Salmon took place Thursday night at Snake River High School. Snake River started the night with a couple of JV matches that ended in wins (Ty Jensen and Jordan Campau) against the Salmon team. The Varsity matches started with SR and Challis wrestling each other at the 98 pound weight with Treyton Nilsson taking on Joshua D’Orazio. Treyton quickly took the upper hand taking down Joshua and putting him in a leg hold and pinning him in the 1st round with only 8 seconds left.

Jake Frost followed up with a 9-5 victory in a tough match against Kevin Mora from Challis. SkyLerr Valentine from SR won by forfeit at 113 but wrestled Sebestain Salazar as an exhibition match and pinned him in the second round. Wyatt Vogler took the mat against Challis’ Trager Abatti at the 132 weight class next. It took three grueling rounds of throws, take downs and blood time to get thru the match where Wyatt would take the victory with a 7-4 win over Trager. Austin Summers of SR followed up with a pin on his opponent Austin Cutler in the first round. Cache Cardona came up with the win by points at 160 pounds over Jacob Culter and Morgan Smith quickly pinned Tristan Maydole- 50 seconds into the 1st round. Snake River finished off the dual against Challis with a 45 – 24 team win. There were then some JV matches against Challis where SR’s JJ VonDerLeith and Joseph VanOrden won their matches. Next up was Snake River’s Varsity against Salmon Varsity starting at the 106 weight class with Jacob Frost agains Connor Burley. As SR’s Frost was wrestling, you could hear a spectator yell, “Come on Jake!” as Jake sailed to a victory with a major decision (13-3). SkyLerr Valentine used his experience and expertise to win by pin against Salmon’s Billy Godfrey. SR’s Kaden Bench at the 120 weight category took on Noah Brown and won by points (9-3). Finishing off the evening, Carlos Molina wrestled Garrett Jarnigan and won easily by major decision and Gunner Bott pinned Hayden Wilcox 29 seconds into the 1st round. Snake River bested Salmon with a final score of 65 to 12. Snake River travels to Firth next on December 28th for the Firth Invitational.
