Wilma Edra Cowley Shiner, 94

Wilma Edra Cowley, Shiner, 94, of Coalinga, CA., passed away peacefully in her sleep, Friday, October 18, 2013 at the home of her daughter, Jaymee Orton, in Blackfoot, Idaho.
            She was born May 24, 1919 in Sunnyside, Utah to Claude Quayle and Ruth Tatton Cowley, the youngest of three sisters. 
            She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio.  She attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City.  While working at Utah Power and Light in Price, Utah, she met Jack L. Shiner, a WWII veteran.  They were married in 1947 and three children were born to them, Jaxon, Gates and Jaymee.  The family moved to California in 1953 and settled in Coalinga. 
            Wilma worked for Union Oil Company for 29 years, retiring from the Nose Unit as a gas accountant.  After her retirement, she and a friend began a successful cake baking business.  Wilma served on the Coalinga City Council CICC committee.
             An exemplary mother and grandmother, Wilma loved her family.  She enjoyed playing the piano, singing songs, baking cookies, going to the park, it was always fun at Grandmother’s home!  Wilma was a devoted, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life and she served in many leadership positions. Though frugal personally, Wilma was generous with her time and means to her family, church and community.  Quiet service to others was her hallmark. 
            She is survived by three children, Jaxon (Becky) Shiner of Clovis, CA, Gates (Helen) Shiner of Visalia, CA, Jaymee (Lyle) Orton of Blackfoot, ID; grandchildren, Jack (Heidi) Shiner, Sean Shiner, Cheryl (Javier) Irigoyen, Lindsey (Paul) Deering, Gerrit Orton, Brigham (Courtney) Orton, Colman (Megan) Orton; great grandchildren, Evelyn and Jaxon Shiner, Paul Addison, and Aidon Deering, Giuliana Irigoyen, London Orton, Tate Orton.
            Interment will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the Price City Cemetery.
            A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Coalinga Ward Chapel, 404 W. Polk Street, Coalinga, CA.
            Arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho.
