Homicide Investigation Update

Update* To clarify, the individual involved in the separate unrelated stabbing incident is alive and expected to be okay.

Idaho Falls, ID – Shortly after 9 a.m. this morning, the Idaho Falls Emergency Dispatch Center received a call requesting a welfare check in the 3000 block of Thayer Bridge. The caller reported that a woman living at this address had not come into work and that coworkers were concerned about her.

Idaho Falls Police Officers were dispatched to the address. Upon arrival, officers observed evidence that suggested a serious crime had occurred. Additional Idaho Falls Police Officers and Investigators were dispatched to the scene.

A male suspect, Phillip Schwab, was present at the residence when officers arrived and was taken into custody at that time. Officers secured the scene and requested a search warrant for the residence and the backyard.

After receiving the search warrant, officers performed a thorough search of the residence and were able to recover the victim’s body. She appeared to have been stabbed multiple times and was buried in a shallow grave in the backyard. At this time, investigators believe she was killed late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

Phillip Schwab, a 33 year old Idaho Falls resident, was arrested for first degree murder and taken to the Bonneville County Jail.

The victim has been identified as Kaylynn Blue, a 33 year old Idaho Falls resident. The Idaho Falls Police Department would like to offer condolences to Kaylynn’s loved ones during this difficult
