INL is proud to support eastern Idaho’s first American Indian Services Pre-freshman Engineering Program (AIS PREP), held at Idaho State University. This six week program, which began on June 24, will include a full “INL” week from July 22-26. During this week, a different INL engineer will engage with the students in a hands-on educational lesson each day. Additionally, the nearly 40 seventh through ninth-grade students will spend a day touring INL.
This summer program provides rigorous academic instruction in STEM subjects over three summers, preparing students for high school and university STEM opportunities. Students attend courses each day in problem solving, engineering, and logic, hear from a different STEM speaker daily, participate in field trips, and take advantage of private tutoring and study time. Students who complete all three years of the course are awarded with a college scholarship.
Support for the eastern Idaho PREP program has been provided by Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho State University and the national American Indian Services PREP program.
