Shooting death of 10-year-old Blackfoot girl

Authorities in Idaho  continue to investigate the death of 10-year-old, Ariel May Gerstlauer.

According to the Bear Lake County Sheriff’s office, someone called emergency last week to say that a child had been shot near a highway in Bear Lake County. Gerstlauer was pronounced dead at the scene from a single gunshot wound, from a .22 caliber bullet.

Gerstlauer attended Blackfoot Community Charter Learning Center, in Blackfoot, Idaho. According to her obituary, “Ariel enjoyed music, make-up, camping, being with Grandma Seratt and family and friends.”

She has many family members in the area ranging from Pocatello to Blackfoot, and Idaho Falls.

Residents of the community have expressed their sadness and compassion for the family.

Bear Lake Sheriff Deputy, Micah Rigby stated in an interview, “Our hearts go out to the family...It’s a horrible situation...We understand that people’s family members are involved in it and it’s a sensitive situation.”

A funeral service will be held 11 A.M. on June 18 at Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot, Idaho.
